Wealth Bathrooms

Many people have expressed concern to me about having bathrooms in their wealth guas. First of all, there are cures for almost all situations. I don't think anyone should feel nervous about particular rooms being in certain areas of the house. The bathrooms of today bear no resemblance to outdoor facilities when Feng Shui first developed. Our bathrooms can be one of the most lavishly decorated, expensive rooms of the house. They make our lives more convenient and less stressful. (Anyone want to go back to outdoor toilets?)

There are a couple things to keep in mind with a wealth bathroom. Ch'i flows in much the same manner that air or water flows. When there is a large drain, the Ch'i will flow down the drain. The largest drain in our homes is the toilet. Thus the phrase "flush your money away" accurately describes a toilet with the lid up - particularly when it is in the wealth area. But this also applies to a bathroom in other guas too.

Keeping the drains closed in a wealth bathroom will keep the ch'i in the room. This means closing the lid of the toilet. (Not to mention that it looks so much better closed than open.) Closing all the other drains that you find in sinks, tubs, and showers is important too. If you think it will be too difficult to remember to close all the drains, you can cut a 9" red string or ribbon and tie it around each drainpipe. In the shower, you may have to purchase a flat rubber stopper to place over the drain. This will keep the Ch'i from draining away in the room.

Decorate your wealth bathroom lavishly with plush towels, scented candles, and pictures on the walls. Using the wealth colors of purple, red, or blue will further enhance the room.

If you are still concerned about the room, keep the door closed and hang a mirror on the outside to symbolically make the room disappear.

Wishing you abundant happiness,

Joy

Joy Notes Q&A

Joy,

I don't have a green thumb and I know that houseplants should look great all the time - not dead. Is it ok to use silk plants in my home instead?

Susan, Janesville, WI

Susan,

Many homes just don't have adequate light to raise nice healthy houseplants. So maybe it's not your brown thumb, it's the light that is the problem. It doesn't matter what your reason is for choosing silk plants. Silk plants are just fine and you're guaranteed that they will look good for a long time. They do have to be regularly dusted and washed though in order to keep them looking good. Silk also works well in hard to reach places that it would be difficult to water regularly. Keep in mind that silk plants don't last forever though. When they start to look like their ch'i is gone, it's time to let them go. Whether they are silk or real, plants are a great ch'i enhancer that will enliven a home or office immensely.
