Gratitude, Attitude, &
the Kitchen Stove

In less than two weeks, people in the United States will
celebrate Thanksgiving Day. This is a day that we set aside to
be with family and friends, to eat a delicious meal together, and
to express gratitude for all of our blessings.

Since Feng Shui works with both the outer world of our
environment and the inner world of thoughts and intentions,
we can use Feng Shui on both levels to make this Thanksgiving
Day even more meaningful for us. (For those of you in other
countries and who don't celebrate Thanksgiving Day, these
suggestions will work equally well for you during any time of
the year.)

  • Start a gratitude journal. Each day write about
something for which you are grateful or fill an entire page
with items (people, places, things, experiences) that you
are thankful for. This will transform your thinking into
thoughts of abundance and thankfulness and help
to dispel thoughts of fear or lack.
"Energy follows thought. What we think about,
    we bring to ourselves."

  • Place pictures of loved ones and friends in the
    Health & Family gua
of your home or of a room.
By placing them in wood frames you will be making
them even more powerful. Make sure that the pictures
are of happy times with these people, particularly if you
currently don't have good relationships with them.
Do this with the intention that you have a wonderful
relationship with all of them, though.
"Energy follows thought. What we think about,
    we bring to ourselves."

  • Clean the cupboards, stove and refrigerator, and
clear off the countertops in the kitchen.
    Tensions
can run high when you have guests, noisy conversations,
rattling pots and pans, and lots of people working in the
same kitchen. Since you'll be spending a lot of time here,
make sure that the kitchen is clean and decluttered. Only
keep items on top of the counters that will be used that
day. An uncluttered environment is easier to work in and
brings forth clarity of thought and calm moods.

  • Play soothing or fun-inspired music to keep the day relaxed
and enjoyable. Smile, relax, have fun!
"Energy follows thought. What we think about,
    we bring to ourselves."

  • If your stove is right next to the sink, place
something that represents the wood element there.

Since water (sink) energy puts out fire (stove) energy,
the addition of the wood element will resolve this
conflict. This could be a plant, a jar of wooden spoons,
bowl of fruit or something blue or green. The stove is a
symbol of both health and wealth and we don't want any
    water squelching those two areas.

  • Remove heavy items overhead, especially over
    the stove.
Pots and pans hanging over the stove and
the cook can create an abundance of oppressive energy.
There's always the danger of it falling on top of you or
the possibility of banging your head on one of the pans.
If you want to have something hanging from the hooks
that are left, choose something lightweight like silk plant
vines and/or a string of small twinkle lights. Both of these
will symbolically lighten the structure overhead.

  • Create traditions for your family if you don't already
have some. A simple tradition that my family does is to
go around the table on Thanksgiving Day and have ech
person tell something that they were thankful for that
    year.

  • Compliment and thank the cook(s) for his/her/their
hard work. Feng Shui stresses being in a good
relationship with our environment, and with all
the people that are close to us too. Remember:
"Energy follows thought. What we think about,
    we bring to ourselves."

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day,

Joy

NEW Bagua mapping service

In addition to personal consultations, I am now offering a bagua
mapping service. This is for anyone who is interested in trying
Feng Shui, but who doesn't feel ready to commit to having a
consultation yet or who just feels they need a little help with
the orientation of the bagua on their home.

If you are confused as to how to lay the bagua on your home or
would just like the reassurance that you are doing it correctly, I
can help. For more detailed information about your home, see
my Deluxe Bagua Mapping Service.

Bagua Mapping Service includes:

  1. Map of your home with the bagua indicated on a
    tissue overlay
. See exactly where each of the bagua
areas are in your home. I'll locate the missing corners/
guas for you. By knowing where all these areas are,
you'll be able to work on particular parts of your home
that pertain to aspects of your life you would like to
    enhance.
  2. Map of individual rooms with the bagua indicated
    on a separate tissue overlay.
    Locations of doubly
auspicious places are indicated on this overlay. (Doubly
auspicious places are extra powerful places to put an
enhancement. These are areas where the gua of a room
overlaps the same gua of the house.)
  3. Supplemental materials:
    1. Recommended enhancements for each gua
    2. Colored bagua map
    3. General directions on using your map
  4. Price: $49

Joy Notes Q&A

Joy,

We're in the process of designing a new home. I would like to design
it so that all the bedrooms are in a good location for restful sleep.
Are there certain areas that are better than others for the bedrooms?

Sarah

*****************

Sarah,

Congratulations on considering the best locations for rooms while
you are still in the design stage of your home. The master bedroom
is best located in the Wealth or Love guas of the home. These are
the power positions of the house, so ideally the master bedroom is
in one of these areas. If the parents are not in the power position
of the house and a child is, that child may start to exert dominance
in family relationships.

The back of the house is more yin and private than the front of the
house, so it is the best location for all bedrooms.

Ideally a bedroom is not located over a garage. There is
too much moving car energy underneath the bedroom
to ensure restful sleep. If cars are aimed directly at an
adjacent bedroom when they are parked in the garage,
this can lead to restless sleep for the same reason -- too
much energy directed at the bedroom.

There are cures that can be incorporated into the building
process if you need to design bedrooms around these garage
arrangements, but it's best to avoid those situations if you can.

I wish you the very best as you design your personal paradise.
Keep in mind that the design stage is a great time to consider
having a Feng Shui review of your plan. It's always best to have
good Feng Shui design built into the home rather than trying to
correct it later.

Joy
