Crystals:
Powerful cure in a small package

There are numerous Ch'i enhancers: mirrors, living plants, natural objects, wind dancers, sound makers, art, color, water features, lighting and crystals. Many can increase the energy of a room or strengthen aspects of your life (i.e., wealth, love, family, creativity, etc.). But sometimes there just isn't the space to put a plant, hang artwork, or use another ch'i enhancer. The mighty crystal comes in so handy in these situations.

The type of crystal used as a cure in Feng Shui is a round, multi-faceted, glass crystal. Energy enters a round crystal and leaves through all the facets in an even manner. This creates a balanced burst of energy in all directions. If the crystal is shaped, such as a teardrop, the energy disperses unevenly. Shaped crystals are still great for sending energizing rainbows of light around the room, but are not used as a cure crystal for Feng Shui purposes.

Use for the powerful, round, multi-faceted crystal:

  1. Stairway/Front door
If a stairway faces the front door, the energy can race down the stairs and right out the front door. Or energy coming in the front door, will go directly upstairs without flowing through the first floor. (Envision where your eye goes when you first enter and you are looking straight ahead or when you are coming down the stairs. Energy goes in the same direction - straight ahead.) Hanging a crystal over the bottom step is the quickest and easiest way to disperse the energy in all directions.
  2. Missing corner of home
Crystals can be used to anchor a missing corner in a home. The ideal shape of a home is rectangular. Most homes aren't that shape. If you draw a rectangle around the outside edge of your home, you may find that there are empty spots inside the rectangle that aren't part of the house. A crystal can be hung inside your home in the corner closest to the missing corner with the intention that it is expanding the wall of the house out to the missing corner.

Each of the eight areas of the rectangle (bagua) pertain to a certain area of our lives (wealth, love, knowledge, career, etc.) If that part is missing in the structure of the house, the occupants may feel more challenged in that aspect of their lives. When it's possible, I prefer that people anchor the missing corners with landscaping. (It's more permanent, but not always possible to do. That's when the crystal works so easily.)

  3. Energizing a room or area of your home
A crystal could be used in a room or gua that you wanted to energize. Suppose you want to energize family relationships, but that area of your home is the master closet. It's very difficult to do other enhancements in this room, but very simple to hang a crystal from the ceiling. (Of course, I would strongly emphasize that the closet be neat and organized for a good energy flow too.)
ΚΚΚ

Not everyone likes crystals, mirrors or water, etc. When I'm working with clients, I make sure that I give them a number of cures that they can use in their homes for each situation. This enables them to choose the ones that work best for them. It's very important that everyone like what they put in their homes and offices, or it's not good Feng Shui!

Just as a crystal sparkles in the sunlight, I hope your life sparkles with happiness,

Joy Notes Q&A

Joy,

My question is about clutter.
The house I am buying is my parents. They are pack rats, a lot more than I am. They actually moved from this home 5 years ago to a smaller home so A LOT of stuff is still left in the home and attic. Although mom hasn't touched the stuff in years, or even seen it, she does not want it thrown away. She also doesn't want me to use it and doesn't have space for it in their current home. So this will be a major clutter issue for us. How can I combat this as I know clutter is a big feng shui issue?

Kris, Madison, WI

Kris,

Yes, you are right. Your parents' clutter is definitely a problem for you and your family. This is a tricky area as you already know, too. Your parents are energetically still in the house with their belongings and that clutter will affect you and your family. A lot of clutter in the attic can keep you and your family from soaring to your greatest potential. Clutter in the basement symbolizes old issues that can hold you in the past. All clutter will slow the chi down and cause it to stagnate. Most of us have enough problems dealing with our own clutter, without dealing with someone else's too.

After you're moved in and your parents have had the opportunity to adjust to your family moving into their old house, I think you should lovingly suggest that they rent a storage unit for their extra belongings. Explain that you need the space and offer to help move their belongings there. By putting all of their items in one place, they will know where they are and can easily access them if they would like. It will also reassure them that they are safe and not being used.

It's very important for your family to claim this home as your own now without other people's things there. Remember: Everything in your home is affecting the quality and flow of the Chi, whether the objects are yours or someone else's.
