Qualities
of the water element
There's nothing quite as soothing as a murmuring stream of
flowing water. Water has long been associated with life and
tranquility. In Feng Shui a gentle flow of water represents
an increase in the flow of wealth and opportunities. There
are several locations in and around your home that make very
good places for a water feature.
Front
door location
- A water fountain welcomes chi, guests, wealth, and opportunities
to your home when it is placed outside your front door.
If there is a directional flow, make sure that the flow
points towards the front door. This will ensure that the
wealth and opportunities come to you rather than flowing
away.
- A bird bath is also considered a water feature and makes
a great enhancement in your front yard.
- A water fountain just inside your front door provides
a soothing sound for you and your guests and welcomes the
ch'i into your home. A flowing fountain represents an increase
in both your career and opportunities. Make sure that the
flow is directed into the home and not out the door, though.
- Aquariums are a wonderful chi enhancer, too. They contain
the five elements in one powerful feature. (Fire: fish,
Wood: plants, Metal: rocks, Earth: sand, and Water).

Wealth
gua
The
wealth gua is located in the back left corner of your home
as it relates to your front door entrance. (To learn more

- Water
features are fabulous wealth generators. Gently flowing
water, like in a fountain, generates more wealth. Contained
water, as in a vase of water, represents being able to keep
what you have.
- If your wealth gua is in a bedroom, use a picture of water
rather than an actual water fountain.
- Pictures of water work just like actual water fountains.
This could be a picture of a lake, ocean, stream or even
two children playing in a wading pool.
- A picture of a large waterfall is considered too forceful
for generating wealth. It may mean money can come your way
quickly and flow away just as fast.
Career
gua
The career gua is located in the center of the front of the
house as it relates to your front door entrance. Many times
the front door is located in the Career gua. This gua relates
to the water element, making it a very powerful place for
a water fountain, aquarium, or water picture.
Outside
pools and spas
Outside pools and spas are water features too. As with a
fountain or bird bath, be sure to keep these features very
well maintained and clean. Exercise caution with pools and
spas by making sure that they are fenced or securely covered
for safety though. Beautiful lighting, seating, and landscaping
can turn these water features into a tranquil oasis.
Caring
for a water fountain
Cleaning: If you have a water fountain,
be sure to clean it regularly.To make the job of cleaning
easier and not as frequent, use distilled water in it rather
than tap water. The mineral deposits in tap water will cause
a build-up on the water fountain, thus requiring more frequent
cleaning.
Adjust the sound of your water fountain:
The sound can be regulated by the amount of water in the fountain
and the distance that it falls until it hits the large pool
of water. The more water that's in the fountain, the less
far the flowing water will fall - making a quieter sound.
Use combinations of stones, rocks, marbles, plants, layering,
etc. to create the look and sound that you desire.
Furniture: Be sure that if the water splashes
outside the fountain that you won't ruin any wood furniture
or fabrics nearby.
