Give yourself the gift of freedom

Freedom - Liberation from anything that restricts your movement.

I'm proclaiming this month as "Freedom from Clutter" month. Clutter restricts our movements, slows our lives down, and keeps us stuck in the past. When we clear the clutter, the ch'i is able to flow freely through our homes/offices, opportunities flow into our lives, we can move about without restrictions, and we can progress forward into the life we desire. Let freedom ring!

Where can you find it?

Clutter can be found everywhere. There are the usual places --closets, drawers, cabinets, basements, garages, and attics. But also look in your refrigerator, pantries, all rooms, and your yard. Check your shelves for cluttered files, books, cd's and pictures. Our computers can be vast storage dumps, too. We keep computer files and emails that we'll never refer to again. It's all clutter!

Everyone has clutter on some level. It is virtually impossible to be clutter free all the time. Clutter clogs the mind, drains our energy, and slows us down; but it is manageable. Clearing clutter is the most effective way to get the ch'i moving in our lives. When we are free of clutter, we become fabulously creative! We are creating space for new opportunities in our lives. Read about my personal experience with removing clutter:

Tips for clearing your clutter:

  1. To start: Choose an area that will have the biggest impact on how you feel in your home. Perhaps it's the kitchen counter that you see every day.
  2. Start small. Choose a drawer or shelf. Work in small time increments. It's easier to find 10-15 minutes each day to clean a shelf than 6 hours to clean a room.
  3. Ask yourself if you love it or use it. If the answer is "yes", you should keep it. If the answer is "no", it's time to let it go. (Of course, if it belongs to your partner, then they are the one who needs to answer the question.)
  4. Give away to friends/family who would benefit more from that object. Be sure they actually could use and want it though or you are adding to their clutter.

  5. Have a garage sale - advertise in the newspaper, create flyers and purge. There is always someone else out there who would be willing to pay for your unused items. It energizes the Ch'i of that unwanted item when it goes to someone who wants it. This will motivate you to get it done by that day too.
  6. Donate. Schedule Goodwill or a similar agency to pick up the unsold items at the end of the garage sale or for some date when you'll be done decluttering.
  7. Throw it away when all other options have been used, bless it for its use and then let it go.
  8. Can't decide on some things? Place them in a box and date it for six months from now. If in six months you haven't opened the box, toss it out without opening it.
  9. For specific tips on how to clear the clutter, read my ezine: Declutter your way to a life you love.
  10. For even more inspiration, read "Clear your clutter with Feng Shui" by Karen Kingston. It is a great book that will motivate you to remove the clutter. Click on the book title to order.
  11. If the job of decluttering your home or office seems too large a task right now, consider working with a professional organizer.
  12. If you're selling your home or moving, make sure that you declutter before showing the home and before moving. You will feel so much better in your new home when you just have the things you love and use there. (It will also help the sale of your home if there isn't any clutter.)
  13. Realize that it's an on-going process to keep the clutter under control. Daily maintenance prevents those overwhelming decluttering jobs later. Energize your space by removing the clutter. Watch miraculous things start to happen in your life.

Graceful Lifestyles interior redesign service

I'm very excited to announce a new service - Graceful Lifestyles Interior Redesign. As a Graceful Lifestyles consultant, I am helping my clients with their interior redesign needs: furniture placement, choosing colors for walls/countertops, fabrics, window treatments and remodeling.

BUT this is interior redesign with a difference - it's holistic interior redesign. Along with the usual components of interior redesign, it also incorporates Feng Shui principles, the 5 elements, yin and yang, along with green design (using environmentally friendly products that help the environment and are healthier for you) and universal design (designing spaces that work for everyone no matter their age or physical abilities).

Preview wall colors
Would you like to see what your room would look like with a different wall color without painting a single brushstroke? Now you can! Pick from a palette of thousands of colors to find just the right shade for your walls. Experiment with an accent wall of a different color. It's all possible. Be certain before you paint.

Furniture arrangement
Have a difficult room to arrange furniture in? Want to create a different look in your room? You can have the look you want with the bonus that it will adhere to good Feng Shui principles and help to support and enhance your life.

Graceful Lifestyles Feng Shui Interior Redesign creates beautiful, comfortable homes and offices that help you achieve your life goals.

One-Day Move-ins

Are you moving this year? Be the envy of your new neighbors. Spend move-in day shopping, golfing, and going out to lunch? You arrive back at your new home that evening and literally start living as though you've been there for months. Your kitchen is arranged, books are on the shelves, clothes are hanging in the closet, pictures are on the wall, and the furniture is arranged. No boxes laying all over the house. No exhausted, aching body. No depressing thoughts of spending every evening and weekend unpacking for the next three months.

We can even arrange to have your home painted and the window treatments installed. On the very first night, see the beautiful home that you envisioned when you purchased your home.

Sound too good to be true? It's entirely possible! Contact me about the One-Day Move-In service. You'll never move without it again.

Joy Notes Q&A

Joy,

I received a vase from my mother-in-law that really doesn't go with my decor. Where would be a good place to put this? Can I store it until she visits?

Arlene, Oshkosh, Wisconsin

*****************

Arlene,

Gifts, especially from loved ones, can be a sensitive issue. I always come back to the deciding question: "Do you love it?" Every object in your home has an energy field around it. Loved objects have vibrant happy energy and unloved objects have negative, conflicting energy. Your energy field is affected by the energy of the objects around you. If you have too many objects in your home that have negative associations to them, you'll be adversely affected by them. Even if they are stored away, you subconsciously know that they are there.

My best advice is to get rid of those unloved objects. Perhaps you can exchange it for a vase that you do love. Remember, it's the thought that counts.

Make sure that you give gifts with the thought that the recipient is able to freely do anything with the gift too. You don't want to clutter up anyone else's home either.
