Brief History

Feng Shui originated in ancient China over 3,000 years ago. The original practitioners practiced Form School Feng Shui. They would study the land to determine the most auspicious places to build and then would guide the building process to ensure that the building and the land stayed in harmony with each other.

Eventually, practitioners noticed a correlation with compass directions and the Compass School Feng Shui came into being. All of the traditions of these early Feng Shui schools were based upon Chinese customs, though. Those same traditions, colors, and customs aren't meaningful for people in the American culture, however. The Intuitive school of Feng Shui developed. Essential Feng Shui and Black Hat Sect are two versions of the Intuitive School.

As a graduate of the Western School of Feng Shui, I utilize the bagua, which is considered to be the Feng Shui road map. It details where different guas or life stations are located in a building based on the front door. For more information on the Bagua, click here.
